At INARF’s 2015 Annual Conference, “Don’t Stop Believin’ – OUR Journey Forward”, the Keynote speakers were the Peterson’s - Craig (Father), and Andrew and Michael (sons). At the conference, attendees learned of twenty-two year old Andrew's story of overcoming challenges. From birth, doctors did not expect Andrew to walk or talk. Through perseverance, hard work, dedication and the support of family and others, he was able to overcome adversity and accomplish his goals. Andrew pushed himself past those bleak early expectations and went on to earn 25 gold medals in state competitions and three gold medals in the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games for running events.
INARF member Benchmark Human Services (formerly AWS) recently named Doug Beebe as its President of Residential Services. Beebe has been with Benchmark for 18 months serving as Vice President, overseeing its programs in Central and Southern Indiana, as well as on the East Coast. In his new role, Beebe will manage all residential, vocational, and day service programs throughout the organization.

ADEC, INARF member and State Use employment center, will be sending two of its own to the 9th Annual International Project SEARCH Conference. Joshua R. Martin, Senior Director of ADEC Employment Services, and Katelyn Andrysiak, Project SEARCH Employment Consultant, will accept the 100 Percent Outcomes Award for ADEC’s South Bend program. The school-to-work training program for young adults with developmental disabilities is receiving the award for placing 100 percent of its 2014 graduates into jobs.
INARF member and State Use Program employment center Easter Seals Arc of Northeast Indiana is collaborating with The Literacy Alliance and Ivy Tech Corporate College to enhance employment-related skills of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Disability.gov has launched a month long social media campaign this July. By using #DgovADA25 on social networks Disability.gov hopes to spur enthusiasm for the landmark legislation, which helps protect the rights of people with disabilities in five key areas: employment, state and local government facilities and services, public accommodations, telecommunications and transportation. Throughout the month it will be posting ADA related events, news, quick facts and more.
