Last week was the end of the first half of the legislative session. As we look ahead, the second half promises to be a little quieter, but no less important.
Between the House and the Senate, 841 bills and joint resolutions were introduced. At “half time”, 269 bills and joint resolutions are still alive – 117 are House bills, 151 are Senate bills, and 1 is a Senate Joint Resolution. On February 2nd, Ability Indiana hosted its quarterly provider meeting at Easter Seals Crossroads in Indianapolis. Representatives from employment centers all over the state of Indiana were in attendance including co-chairs Eric Geswein of Rauch Industries and Bill Rock of Carey Services. During this meeting we had brief introductions of all members including formal introductions of Nick Rhoad, the new director of Ability Indiana and Asher Weaver, new account executive with Ability Indiana.
An administrative law judge from the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) has awarded minimum wage and back pay to three individuals with disabilities working at Re-Ad, a facility-based employment center managed by the Seneca County Board of Developmental Disabilities in Seneca County, Ohio.
INARF member Bona Vista has announced that Sam Tocco, a WorkForce Diversity Employment Specialist, was awarded the 2015 Indiana Association of People Supporting Employment-First (IN-APSE) Professional Award at the IN-APSE conference in Indianapolis. Indiana APSE is a membership organization that promotes and expands quality, community employment outcomes of choice for all people with disabilities. The IN-APSE Professional Award is given to one Indiana employment services employee each year. This award is designed to reward highly effective professionals who demonstrate trustworthiness, respectfulness, supportiveness and innovation in their interactions with supported employees, as well as with their friends, family members and employers.
