This month, Hoosiers celebrate Disability Awareness Month. The goal of Disability Awareness Month is to increase awareness and promote independence, integration and inclusion of all people with disabilities. Adults and children with disabilities represent slightly more than 19 percent of Indiana’s population.
ANCOR, INARF's national partner, is leading the Save Our Services Campaign in response to a proposed new rule on the overtime exemption under the Fair Labor Standards Act out of the Department of Labor that would greatly increase the salary threshold at which employees with managerial duties can be exempt from overtime. We expect the rule to be finalized in the spring, which means you would have to comply with it by this summer.
Oregon Rehabilitation Association Creates Video to Increase Awareness of DSP Workforce Issue3/2/2016
The Oregon Rehabilitation Association (ORA) has posted a video entitled The Cost of Compassion, which highlights the critical workforce shortage of Direct Support Professionals. The video emphasizes the low wages received by DSPs and the resulting retention and recruitment issues for service providers because DSPs leave to pursue jobs with higher pay to support their families. ORA would like this video to go viral, with a goal of 10,000 shares by the end of the day on Thursday, March 3. They need our help to achieve this goal, so please share the video with your social networks, staff, friends, family, board members, people you serve, neighbors, etc.
As of March 1, the INARF PAC has raised $2,309, just over 14% of its $16,000 goal for 2016. INARF appreciates the generosity of individuals who have contributed, and we need the continued help of our supporters to attain our goal.
Vincennes University is pleased to announce its 2016 Summer Bridge Program. The purpose is to help students transition to college through a summer orientation experience. Taking the step to college can be intimidating and scary. The Bridge program offers an introduction to the campus, faculty and staff, a structure for productive study habits, team building and social activities, and the opportunity to connect with fellow students and develop friendships.
