In Pennsylvania, members of the Christiana Fire Company say their company is unique in the region because three of their volunteers are individuals with a disability. These individuals take a lead role during fire and accident scenes, as well as behind the scenes to keep the fire trucks and company rolling.
It was announced that Hopewell Center, an INARF member and State Use provider, was one of 16 organizations that received a grant from the Madison County Community Foundation. Hopewell received the grant to support their efforts to improve the quality of life in Madison County through Arts & Culture, Education, Civic Affairs, Economic Development, Health, and Human Services. The Homestart Early Learning Program at Hopewell will benefit from the award.
The Center on Community Living and Careers announced the offering of twelve regional two day in-depth Discovery trainings to be offered throughout the summer and fall. These trainings, facilitated by Bob Niemiec and Patty Cassidy of Griffin-Hammis Associates, are designed for employment service professionals interested in learning to build a customized foundation for employment and career planning and are supported by the Indiana Governor's Planning Council for People with Disabilities, the Indiana Partnership for Postsecondary Education and Careers, and the Indiana Bureau of Rehabilitation Services.
INARF member Opportunity Enterprises (OE) was awarded a grant from the AseraCare Foundation to enhance OE’s digital library! OE will use the grant for its developmental program Renewed Horizons, a curriculum-based program designed for individuals with moderate developmental disabilities aged 50 years or older. The program will utilize the grant to fund the purchase of tablets to benefit more than 50 clients who are currently being served.
Established in 2000, the Vectren Foundation provides support for the many nonprofit organizations within the communities served by Vectren’s utility operations (most of central and southwest Indiana). The Foundation contributes approximately $2.3 million each year to local communities to support housing construction efforts, make energy efficient upgrades, prepare future generations through education and leadership training, protect the environment and celebrate diversity. The foundation accepts applications year-round through its website.
